Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

Bosch has updated its portfolio of small, cordless angle grinders with the new Bosch GWS18V-50 and GWS18V-45 angle grinders. These 18V grinders feature a 5-inch wide and 4.5-inch wide wheel capacity, respectively. Both tools are 11-inches long and weigh 4-pounds. The company aims to grind down the competition with the grinders’ four-pole motors, re-engineered paddle-grip switches, direct cooling, and motor overload protection.

“We believe these new tools are some of the most versatile and cost-effective grinders on the market, delivering tool innovations unique to this class. We designed productivity and safety features based on input from individual users. So virtually every trade professional, from steel workers to contractors, contributed to development of these products.”

– Mike Iezzi, product manager, grinders, Robert Bosch Tool Corporation

The Bosch GSW18V-50 and GWS18V-45 are part of a line of small angle grinders that include a few corded models as well. These aren’t going to blow your mind with power like DeWalt’s FlexVolt, but they’re not going to break the bank either. At $129 for either model, you get Bosch quality in the build, though the lack of a brushless motor does stand out.

For users looking for a cordless grinder to fit smaller jobs, these could fit the bill nicely if you’re already on Bosch’s 18V platform. If you’re looking for something with more power, keep your eyes open. The launch of Bosch Eneracer battery packs is Germany is poised to give the 18V line a steroid shot, much like Metabo’s LiHD battery packs. That could lead to renewed relevance for the line.

LOVE the “muscular four brush” remark, a truly great, new way of saying “being too cheap to go with a brushless motor we figured out a way to make this serious omission feel less painful to those who will end up buying this overpriced, outdated tool that should cost half as much but strangely does not…”
