Professional Tool Reviews for Pros
The Makita XAG10M 18V 4‑1/2″ Paddle Switch Cut‑Off/Angle Grinder Kit is the latest addition to Makita’s 18V LXT family. It features an electronically controlled brushless motor that delivers up to 8,500 RPMS, runs cooler, and maximizes energy usage for up to 50% longer runtime over brushed motors.
Automatic Speed Change technology adjusts speed and torque during operation while the Electronic Torque Control turns the motor off if rotation speed suddenly slows or wheel is forced to stop. An electric brake stops the grinding or cut-off wheel in 2 seconds or less for maximum productivity and increased safety.
The Makita XAG10M has a relatively light and compact design at 5.6 pounds with battery and 14-1/4-inches long. Included in the kit, 18V LXT 4.0Ah batteries charge in 40 minutes. Other notable features include a rubberized soft grip, a 3-stage L.E.D gauge to monitor battery charge level, and a lock-off switch. The kit includes (2) 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries, rapid charger, grinding wheel, cut-off wheel, wheel guard, cut-off wheel guard and tool bag. That all adds up to a tool that’s ideal for grinding, cutting and sanding a wide range of materials including tile, concrete, pipe, conduit, and more.
“Makita is a pioneer in brushless motor technology in cordless tools and the leader in the category. Makita brushless grinders are engineered to deliver the power and performance of a corded grinder, without the hassles of a cord. This new brushless motor grinder also has more features, including an electric brake and paddle switch, giving contractors one more opportunity to cut the cord for grinding and metalworking applications.”
Compared to last year’s XAG03 from Makita, the XAG10M doesn’t look much different on paper aside from trading the lock-on top switch for a non-locking paddle switch and gaining a lock-off. But really that’s what the XAG06 did. The big step forward is the addition of the electric brake. We’ll have to wait until we get our hands on one to see if the power has been increased. After all, that target has now moved significantly up for cordless grinders!
